Happy New Year or Sawatdee Bpii Mai.And thank God there wasn't any bomb blast on Christmas or New Years Day. For those who don't know, Hatyai has been bombed quite a few times in the past years, the last being 2007.Hence you can probably understand how paranoid I was, sitting in my room, hearing fireworks that sounded like bombs (because I come from sheltered Singapore, I have never heard the sound of a bomb and hence every loud noise seemed to resemble that of a bomb).I took some pictures, and I had to, because it was right outside my apartment! I mean, how often do you see it right IN FRONT of you? Even if you went down to Marina Bay for the countdown and the fireworks, it wasn't really really in front of you.The fireworks set outside my apartment wasn't by the government but rather a group of Thai guys. Apparently in Hatyai it is not illegal to set off fireworks. In fact it was so bloody loud that the cars parked on the streets kept having their alarms set off.To avoid the crowd and being caught in a potential bomb blast, I stayed in my apartment room and had a blue countdown all by myself, watching movies on TV. I'm really bored here and I'm so glad I'm leaving this place for Kanchanaburi in 3days. I guess the only great thing so far is just having my own space, my own freedom, my own independence. Boy am I not looking forward to going home.
