Today.Saturday.

Another act of homophobia by the Media Development Authority (MDA).

Just weeks after Starhub was fined $10,000 for showing a lesbian kissing scene, another TV station has been slapped with a fine.

TV Channel 5 has been fined by the Media Development Authority (MDA) for an episode in an acquired series, “Find and Design”. The episode normalises and promotes a gay lifestyle and was aired on Sunday, 13 January 2008 at 7.30am.

The programme “Find and Design” is a home and decor series and in the episode concerned, the host helps a gay couple to transform their game room into a new nursery for their adopted baby. The episode contained several scenes of the gay couple with their baby as well as the presenter’s congratulations and acknowledgement of them as a family unit in a way which normalises their gay lifestyle and unconventional family setup. This is in breach of the Free-to-Air TV Programme Code which disallows programmes that promote, justify or glamourise gay lifestyles.

MDA also consulted the Programme Advisory Committee for English Programmes (PACE) and the Committee was also of the view that a gay relationship should not be presented as an acceptable family unit. As the programme was shown on a Sunday morning, PACE felt that this was inappropriate as such a timeslot was within family viewing hours.

Taking into account the severity of the breach, the telecast time of the programme and the fact that this was a second breach for MediaCorp TV, MDA found that a financial penalty was warranted and issued MediaCorp TV a fine of $15,000.

Indeeed, the idea of a happy gay couple with a happy family is such a threat to Singapore. Only 'sissy' or 'murderous' gays and lesbians can be potrayed on TV, such as a sissy hairdresser (which irritates me).

Like what one of my friend mentioned, "Once again, the authorities fail to recognise that there can be no “promotion” of homosexuality - people are either queer or they are not.

What is this harm that they are bending over backwards to protect the people from? Because, the only thing that will result from watching the program is that maybe more people will be more accepting of homosexuality and learn that it is possible to have a happy gay family, that we are not all drug-using promiscuous unhappy people.

Once again, this change in attitude, the acknowledgment that gay people are human, does not mean that they are going to BE gay. We are normal people living normal lives, paying our mortgages and taxes, going to work, contributing to society."

Again recently, 3-minute segment of the Ellen DeGeneres Show where the host condemned homophobia and spoke about the recent fatal shooting of a 15-year-old gay student in school, was censored on MediaCorp’s Channel 5.

A source who alerted Fridae about the omitted segment said she first saw the episode online and was looking out for it on local TV as it was a powerful appeal urging viewers to reexamine their misconceptions about gay people.

The episode, which aired Feb 28 in the US and Apr 24 in Singapore, showed the usually cheerful talk show host nearing tears as she spoke about the circumstances surrounding the murder.

The day before Larry was murdered, he had asked his killer and schoolmate, Brandon, to be his Valentine. “I don't want to be political, this is not political, I'm not a political person but this is personal to me. A boy has been killed and a number of lives have been ruined and somewhere along the line, the killer, Brandon, got the message that it’s so threatening and so awful and so horrific that Larry would want to be his Valentine; that killing Larry seemed to be the right thing to do. And when the message out there is so horrible that to be gay, you can get killed for it, we need to change the message.”

The openly gay host added: “Larry was not a second-class citizen. I'm not a second-class citizen. It is OK if you are gay." “I would like you to start paying attention to how often being gay is the punchline of a monologue or how often gay jokes are in a movie,” DeGeneres said. “And that kind of message, laughing at someone because they’re gay, is just the beginning. It starts with laughing at someone, and then it’s verbal abuse, then it’s physical abuse, and it’s this kid Brandon killing a kid like Larry.”

Like the source, I was looking forward to Ellen's message, but soon realised that it has been censored out. Again, is the act of fighting against homophobia, a hate crime, such a horrible message that the MDA has to censor that out?

And all these, it dawned on me that I will not tolerate any more 'sissy' or gay jokes that my friends and family tend to make. Once I was too scared to voice out. Now I realised that it is up to individuals to start changing the mindsets of those around them.

Didn't have money to buy her a present, so I made her one instead. I should get A for the effort.

Today.Friday.

Had an interview today with MUJI as visual merchandising assistant.

The VM manager is a butch who looks like my friend. LOL.

If I do get hired, it'll be the 4th time I'm working under a lesbian supervisor or colleague.

WE ARE EVERYWHERE haha.

Britain, Britain, Britain, Land of diversity... But what of the people of Britain? What do they? Who is them? And Why?

Here are some facts about Britain that you might not know: Number One: Britain is a country. Number Two: Britain is called Britain. Number Five: Britain!

Vicky Quotes

"No but yeah but yeah but yeah no but yeah no but yeah... ...but no because I'm not even going on the pill... ...because Nadine reckons they stop you from getting pregnant."

"Oh... I can't believe you just said that"

"Don't give me evos!"

"Anyway don't listen to her coz everyone knows her fanny goes sideways"

"Oh, my God! That is so unfair! This is like, well sexual harassment! If you like, fancy me why don't you just say so? God, this is exactly like the time Miss Rennig, who everyone knows is a total lesbian, made Candice Burton stay behind after PE, started telling her off for gobbing on Sunita Geschwani's hair. But everyone knows she only made her stay late because she wanted to get off with her, cuz when she was telling her off her legs were wide open and Candice reckons she could see her spider."

"You remember, it was the time I got fingered by Chris Moiles and Hayley Evers reckons she saw Jo Whiley taking a dump in the sea."

"No, but, yeah, but, no, but, yeah, but, no, but, yeah but I know because I'm not wasting police time because you know Micha? Well, she saw the whole thing, right, because she was bunking off school because she was gonna go down the wimbley and get off with Luke Griffiths, only she never because he's been trying to grow a moustache but it just looks like pubes, so she got off with Luke Torbet instead, only don't tell Bethany that because she's fancied Luke Torbet ever since she flashed her fanny at him during Home Ec'."

Daffdd Thomas

"It's so hard being the only gay in the village"

"A Bacardi and Coke please, Myfanwy"

Emily Howard

"You must know that I am a lady... I press flowers and stroke kittens and swim in rivers... wearing dresses and hats."

"I do lady's things... and shit."

Andy and Lou

"Yeah, I know"

"I want that one" *points to something*

Kenny Craig

"Look into my eyes. Look into my eyes. The eyes. The eyes. Not around the eyes. Don't look around my eyes. Look into my eyes... You're under."

Marjorie Dawes

"Dust, anybody, no?"

"Because it's got half the fat you can eat twice as much"

"Dust. Anybody? No? High in fat, low in fat? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. It's actually very low in fat. You can have as much dust as you like."

"Well you can take your fat fighters and shove them up your fat arse! That's right, screeeeeeeeeew you!"

Carol

"Computer says no..." *coughs*

Today.Thursday.

Today, Ronald and I headed down to Salvation Army at Upp Bukit Timah.

Nothing much there.. Just a bunch of ang mo who were damn noisy.

I bought 3 squash rackets for $15 altogether!

On the way back, I looked at my hands and were grossed out by how black and dirty it was. The stuff there are reallllllyyyy dirty man.

Tomorrow I have an interview with MUJI as a visual merchandising assistant. Well.. Just an assistant post only.. But it beats having sales or admin or some other really weird jobs.

Hope it goes well. Wish me luck.

Today.Tuesday.

Went over to Aretha's condo for a swim.

Which is kinda opposite my place (across the expressway and a freaking hill to climb before reaching).

We laze at the poolside and then I realised..

That there are a couple of expats suntanning and running in the gym.

Which makes me wonder..

Don't these expats hafta work?

After the swim we went back to her place. Which is when I found out that her friend is *ahem* 'one of us' when she asked me whether I watch the L Word (omg another L Word reference again!).

At that moment I thought she was one of those straight girls who watches the L Word...

Only to confirm my suspicion when we were heading out to TM for lunch, when she briefly mentioned her not-so-good coming out experience with her mom.

(The reason why we started talking about this coming out topic was because Aretha's mom freaked me out with a very serious-toned question..

"belle, tell me the truth honestly..." when we were in the hall..

only to realise it was about her hair color! I, and Aretha's friend, thought it was about my sexuality- paranoid!)

Ok, tennis soon with Aretha and her friend.

Today.Sunday.

Last night's Sayoni gathering was alright, I guess. I got to meet up with people that I know, which was really the main reason why I went.

The venue was at Food #3, at Rowell Road (Serangoon area). http://www.food03.sg/

Halima, the tall and funny french lady;

Jo, the friend I stuck with the whole night;

Neshah, the seriously cranked up funny lady who kept calling me a wuse for not drinking more;

Rafael, the ah beng lawyer,

... and this lady/girl whom I have seen her a few times at different events, who unfortunately has a girlfriend because I have a small crush on her since the first time I saw her at Ovidia's play.

Sigh.. The good ones are always taken. But we still had a nice long chat though.

I don't really like social events where I don't know most of the people attending. I feel so awkward, so I just sit in one corner and stone away the night.

And when someone cute talks to me, I can literally feel my face on fire, and my mouth clams itself up, and I can barely speak more than 5 sentences.

God, I wish I'm like Halima, who can chat up a storm with strangers.

Today.Monday.

Another day of unemployment.

So I packed up my sporting gear and my diving-suit-lookalike swimmig costume, and headed to my dad's condo for another day in the gym.

Yesterday I met Hui Fang at Plaza Sing and she commented that I have put on weight.

I know lah. Ain't oblivious to the tight pants and tee okay..

Back to the gym scene.

After huffing and puffing and blowing down nothing..

I headed to the pool.

With my diving gear and snorkels, I swam laps and laps. I was kidding about the snorkles.

And I looked up while doing my 5th lap.. And I saw an angel.

Ok.. Maybe not a real angel.

But rather a beautiful caucasian, sitting beside the pool, sun tanning and reading.

Now, those who know me know that I have a thing for caucasians.

Suddenly I felt like Ian Thorpe and each stroke was with power annointed by the God of Swimming.

My, I can understand how Andrea felt when she saw the hot lifeguard when she goes swimming in school, hah!

When she did look over a few times, I wonder is it due to the fact that I was staring. My googles aren't dark enough to hide my eyes, shit.

Today.Wednesday.

Oh my, my life couldn't be more boring and aimless.

As much as I love the fact that I can sleep in late, lazing around at home is seriously becoming a bore.

Haven't been doing much, just watching serial dramas and movies and the likes of BONES, LITTLE BRITAIN, ELLEN DEGENERES @ 5PM, and many other random shows.

Looks like I am not the only one. Andrea, Emily.. haha all sucked into a life of watching serials.

Like the L WORD.

It amuses me when hetrosexual females watch lesbian dramas, yet it is also a sign of how society is becoming more open and accepting.

I suppose one might be curious about an alternative lifestyle- what goes on in their lives, what do they do, how do they behave.. the list goes on.

Just as I am always curious why some girls hang on to their MCP, hot tempered and abusive boyfriends. Can't they find a better gentlemen?

Unfortunately, the L WORD isn't a true representative of the lesbian community here, or even in America. Not everyone is gorgeous and stick-thin and rich without having to work. My, I would love that..

Ok, Ele is gonna say I'm a lesbian activist again. So I better stop. Lol.
